What is Remove EXIF Metadata?
EXIF metadata is embedded information stored inside image files — typically JPEG and TIFF — that records the camera model, lens, exposure settings, date and time, and sometimes GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. While this data is useful for photographers, it poses a privacy risk when sharing images online. Anyone who downloads your photo can read the EXIF data and learn where and when it was taken, what camera you used, and in some cases your exact location. Our tool strips all metadata by re-encoding the image through the Canvas API, which does not preserve EXIF data, producing a clean image that contains only pixel data.

What EXIF data is removed?⌄
All EXIF metadata is removed, including camera make and model, lens information, exposure settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), date and time, GPS coordinates, software used, and any custom metadata fields. The output image contains only pixel data with no embedded metadata whatsoever.
Does removing EXIF affect image quality?⌄
No. Removing EXIF does not alter the pixel data at all. The image looks identical before and after. However, if the output format is JPEG, the standard JPEG re-encoding applies (which is the same as any JPEG save). The metadata removal itself is lossless — it simply does not copy the EXIF chunk to the new file.
Can I remove EXIF from PNG files?⌄
PNG files can contain metadata in the form of tEXt chunks, but this is less common than EXIF in JPEG. Our tool re-encodes the image through Canvas, which removes both EXIF and PNG text chunks. The output PNG will be clean of all metadata.
