What is Add Border to Image?

The border is added around the outside of the image, expanding the canvas dimensions rather than covering image content.

Does the border go on top of the image or around it?⌄
The border is added around the outside of the image, expanding the canvas. No image content is covered or obscured. For example, adding a 20px border to a 800x600 image produces a 840x640 output with the original image centered inside the border frame.
Can I use a transparent border?⌄
The border color picker supports any color but not transparency directly. If you need a transparent border (padding), use the Rounded Corners tool instead, which clips the image to a shape and outputs a transparent PNG. Alternatively, set the border color to match your intended background.
What happens to transparency when I add a border to a PNG?⌄
The output preserves PNG transparency for the image content. The border itself is filled with the color you select. If you choose white as the border color, transparent areas within the original image will also be composited onto white in the output.
Can I add different border thicknesses on each side?⌄
Currently the border thickness is uniform on all four sides. For asymmetric borders, you would need a more advanced image editor. The uniform border is sufficient for most framing and standardization use cases.
