Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply both blur and sharpen at the same time?⌄
You can set both sliders, but they have opposing effects. Blur is applied first using the Canvas filter API, then sharpening is applied on top. In practice, applying both simultaneously produces minimal visible effect since they counteract each other. For best results, use one or the other, not both at once.
How does the sharpen effect work?⌄
The sharpen effect uses an unsharp masking algorithm that increases contrast along edges by comparing each pixel with its neighbors. The amount slider controls the strength of the effect — higher values produce more pronounced edge enhancement. At very high values, the effect may introduce visible halos around high-contrast edges.
Is blurring reversible?⌄
No. Blurring removes high-frequency detail that cannot be recovered once applied. Always keep a copy of the original image. The live preview lets you see the effect before downloading, but once you download the blurred image, the original detail is permanently lost in that file.
Will blur or sharpen work on large images?⌄
Blur uses the Canvas filter API which is hardware-accelerated and works efficiently on large images. Sharpening uses a pixel-level convolution that processes each pixel individually, so very large images (above 5000px) may take a few seconds to process. The live preview updates after each slider adjustment, so you can see progress.
