Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between lossy and lossless compression?⌄
Lossy compression (used for JPEG and WebP) permanently removes data that the human eye barely notices, producing much smaller files. Lossless compression (used for PNG) preserves all original data, resulting in larger files but pixel-perfect quality. Our tool uses lossy compression for JPEG and WebP outputs, and lossless for PNG.
Will compression reduce the dimensions of my image?⌄
No. The compressor keeps your original image dimensions (width and height) exactly as they are. It only adjusts the compression quality or targets a specific file size. If you need to change the dimensions, use our Image Resizer tool instead.
What quality percentage should I use?⌄
For most photos, a quality between 70% and 85% produces a good balance of file size and visual quality. Below 70%, JPEG artifacts become visible. For web graphics or screenshots, you may want 85% or higher to preserve text clarity.
Can I compress multiple images at once?⌄
Currently the compressor processes one image at a time so you can fine-tune the quality for each file. For batch processing, simply compress each image one after another — the tool is fast since everything happens locally in your browser.
Is there a file size limit?⌄
You can upload images up to 50 MB. Since processing happens entirely in your browser, the limit depends on your device's available memory rather than a server constraint.
