Compressing images one at a time works for occasional use, but when you have a folder of 50 product photos, 100 blog images, or an entire photo shoot to optimize, individual processing is impractical. When Bulk Compression Saves Time
Website migrations. Moving a site to a new CMS often requires optimizing hundreds of existing images. Bulk compression with a consistent quality setting produces uniform results across the entire set.
E-commerce product catalogs. Online stores with dozens or hundreds of product images need consistent compression — both for visual consistency and for predictable file sizes that keep product pages loading quickly.
Email campaigns. Sending a newsletter with multiple images? Compress them all first to keep the total attachment size under email limits.
Photo archive optimization. If you have years of photos stored at original resolution, bulk compression can reclaim significant storage space with minimal quality loss.
How It Works
Upload multiple images by dragging them onto the drop zone or selecting multiple files in the file picker. Set a single quality level using the slider — this quality applies to every image in the batch. Click compress, and each image is processed independently using the same quality setting.
Each image is compressed in its original format: PNG inputs produce PNG outputs, JPEG inputs produce JPEG outputs. PNG compression is lossless (the quality slider does not affect PNG), while JPEG and WebP compression uses the quality setting. The output format always matches the input format.
After compression, download images individually or as a ZIP archive. The ZIP bundles all compressed images into a single file for convenient downloading — no saving each image separately.
Choosing a Quality Setting for Bulk Processing
Since the same quality applies to all images, choose a setting that works across the entire batch:
80-85% quality: The recommended default for photographs and web images. Produces significant size reduction with minimal visible quality loss across most image types.
70-75% quality: More aggressive compression. Smaller files but JPEG artifacts may be visible in detailed images. Use when file size is the priority.
85-90% quality: Conservative compression. Larger files but preserves more detail. Use for images with text, sharp edges, or fine detail where artifacts would be visible.
If your batch contains a mix of image types (some photos, some graphics with text), use 85% as a safe compromise. For a batch of pure photographs, 80% produces excellent results.
Limitations and Tips
The constraint is browser memory. In practice, 50-100 images work smoothly on most devices. Very large batches of high-resolution images may slow down or cause memory issues on older devices — process in groups of 50-100 if needed.
Since all images use the same quality setting, images that need different treatment (a photo that needs 80% and a graphic that needs 95%) should be processed in separate batches.
